Hotel owners in Ibiza are expecting to be full this month, but Ibiza hotel federation boss, Pedro Matutes, said yesterday that a good August will not save the summer season. Matutes said that many hoteliers are extremely concerned about another slump in bookings for September and October and a large number of hotel owners may decide to close much earlier than usual to cut their losses. Ibiza airport in expecting 20 per cent more passengers this week than during the first week of August last year, but Matutes said that the late rush, mainly in the Spanish and Italian markets, is not enough to help the island's tourist industry balance out the summer.
