A 16-year-old British tourist is under going treatment in a Palma clinic for serious injuries sustained when he hit his head in a hotel swimming pool in Palmanova. The semi-conscious teenager was dragged to safety from the hotel pool by fellow holidaymakers. The accident happened at mid-day yesterday and according to the hotel director, the tourist was due to have gone home yesterday at the end of his holiday. Hotel staff called the emergency services as soon as the accident happened and he was rushed to a Palma clinic immediately. Apparently the British holidaymaker hit his head while trying a backward summersault into the pool. The spotlight has been on swimming pools in holiday resorts across the Mediterranean again this year. At the start of the summer there were five tragic deaths in Majorcan pools involving adults and young children. While in nearly all of the incidents, the health and safety inspectors have given the scenes of the deaths clean bills of health. Consumer watchdogs, in the UK, in particular, are carrying out their own investigations into incidents which have involved UK holidaymakers.
