The war of words between the Balearics and Madrid continued yesterday with the Secretary of State for Tourism Juan Jose Guemes dismissing claims that the Balearics were being excluded from promotional campaigns by the state organisation, Turespaña. Guemes said that his department had presented a whole series of joint action plans and said that the Balearic Minister for tourism, Celesti Alomar, was talking rubbish. Alomar was quoted as saying that Turespaña were snubbing the Balearics. Guemes yesterday held talks with Tiffany Blackman the Director of the Balearic Tourism Promotion Body regarding possible joint campaigns. Guemes said that funding was available for the Balearics. The leader of the Balearic government Francesc Antich has said that the islands are being discriminated against by Madrid on a whole series of issues.
