The Secretary of State for energy and industrial development José Folgado, ratified the central government's position, to the effect that a decision on the future of gas in the Balearics will not be taken until next year, once the pertinent studies are completed. He added that any decision will be made jointly with the Balearic government. Balearic minister of innovation and energy, Priam Villalonga, has criticised the delay, which holds up energy planning. The local government favours a pipeline from the Peninsula, but the central government says that there are other viable options. In the meantime, GESA has to use diesel at its Son Reus plant, which is designed for natural gas.
