Last year there was a five per cent drop in the number of recreational vessels registered in Spain while turnover in the marine industry rose by nearly 20 per cent. The Balearics still account for the largest fleet of recreational vessels in Spain with 1'634 registered boats followed by Girona, Barcelona and Alicante. Last year, the boat building industry turned over 135.22 million euros with a sharp increase in orders for large vessels from the United States. The nautical industry is getting ready for the week-long International Boat Show in Barcelona which opens its doors on November 4 to some 160'000 visitors.
