The Balearic ministries of economy, commerce and industry and the environment yesterday signed an agreement to organise an environment fair next year. The fair, which will be known as Ecológica, will be the region's first fair on the environment and quality of life. It will be held at the fairs precinct in the Polígono de Levante between January 23 and 26. According to a government spokesman, the environment ministry is backing thei fair in the hope that it will contribute to raising awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. The organisers believe that the fair will attract the latest novelties in a wide range of themes related to the environment and quality of life, presented by a wide range of institutions and private companies. It is expected to cover sustainable management of the environment, research, food safety, fair trade, recycling, specialised publications, organic farming, renewable energies and sustainable building. The fair will cost more than 83'000 euros and will coincide with a congress, debates and a variety of activities for schoolchildren.
