Spanish police arrested the captain and 10 crew members on a Panama-registered boat yesterday after finding two tonnes of cocaine on board, officials said. The haul was found stashed in a false bottom of the boat when it docked in the northern Spanish port of Gijon. The ship, carrying a load of scrap iron, was on its way from Venezuela to Hamburg in Germany, officials said. A government spokesman said police arrested the ship's German captain and crew members, who came from different Latin American countries. Spain is a common entry point for smuggling cocaine into Europe.
