IT was announced yesterday that Palma will host an international congress on environmental engineering, after a verbal agreement was made between Balearic leader Francesc Antich and Andreu Ripoll, representative of Spain's Academy of Engineering. Ripoll said that Antich will be made a member of the committee of honour of the academy which will be presided this year by King Juan Carlos.
The congress will be held on November 24 and 25 and among those taking part will be American Nobel Prize laureate Norman Borlaug.
The congress will discuss the administration of water supplies and how to achieve more efficient consumption, rubbish disposal and climate change.
The Academy will be celebrating its tenth anniversary next year.
