A WOMAN aged 79 was fighting for her life yesterday after being involved in an accident with a car, as she was crossing Calle Rodriguez Mendez by the Sant Sebastia church. The woman, who was using the pedestrian crossing, sustained severe head injuries.
The driver, who was uninjured, said that he thought that the woman was crossing against a red light and was unable to avoid her.
Several police patrols and two ambulances rushed to the scene and the woman was taken to hospital.
According to police sources, she was conscious when she arrived.
Hospital sources said that she will be kept under observation for at least 48 hours, while the extent of her injuries is explored.
The police are investigating the cause of the accident and have questioned the driver and eye-witnesses.
