THE under-secretary for public works, Adolfo Menéndez, said in Palma yesterday that Balearic flights will be declared of general interest very shortly.
He was speaking after a meeting held with nine deputies and senators of the Popular Party (PP) in the Balearics.
In a communique, the party said that the meeting had been held to revise the situation of the motion, approved by the Senate, to solve the problem of air transport in the region. The note said that the public works ministry continues to work intensely to achieve the general interest agreement for certain flights in the archipelago.
The conservatives said that the under-secretary had promised to solve the problem as quickly as possible and called on the Balearic government to forget opportunism and work on behalf of residents. Nothing was said about the motion to increase the reduction on flight and boat trips to 50 per cent.
