BETTINA Ferrero, the Austrian Foreign Minister, came to Majorca to present the Insignia of Merit to Dr José Maria Sevilla, for his study of the Archduke Luis Salvador, the Austrian nobleman who spent a large part of his life on the island, studying the customs, history and flora. She told reporters that now that the war in Iraq was over, what the European Union countries had to do was move forward, and the United Nations had to play a central and very important role in the international scene.

She added that EU foreign ministers had been discussing this and had signed a declaration in Athens.
The UN, she said, should work not only in the humanitarian field but also in the political and economic reconstruction of Iraq.
She said “we must do everything possible to show that it has been a specific war against Saddam, for the weapons of mass destruction, but now we must all work to achieve stability in the area and in the world.”
