A Spanish woman was killed and two British tourists seriously injured in a collision between a car and a coach on the Inca-Alcudia road yesterday.
Coach driver Antoni Munar had picked up 41 British passengers at Son Sant Joan airport and was ferrying them to a hotel in Pollensa, where they were due to spend a week's holiday. But at about 11am, when the coach had crossed Inca and reached the fire station, it was involved in a collision with a Seat Fura, driven by Catalina Ramis, aged 76. As a result of the crash, the car was destroyed and the driver died almost instantly. Her body had to be cut free from the wreckage by the fire brigade. Two of the coach passengers were rushed to hospital. They were not named but were described as a man and a woman aged about 50. The woman had a head injury and had been thrown clear of the coach when the driver braked. The man had cuts and bruises to various parts of the body. The other tourists were able to leave the coach unaided and after receiving attention from paramedics were taken to their hotel in another coach.
The Guardia Civil traffic patrol rerouted traffic to the Sineu road because of tailbacks.
An investigation into the cause of the accident has been opened.
