THE sun was shining in a clear blue sky over Puerto Pollensa last Saturday and there was just a hint of a breeze to make it even more pleasant. It was, in fact, a perfect day for a wedding and it turned out to be a perfect wedding for bride and groom Rebecca Talmage and Jamie Donaldson. Not that anything apart from the weather was left to chance. Rebecca's parents Julie and Richard had been planning their daughter's big day for more than 15 months and everything from the table plan at the reception to the flowers in the church was checked and rechecked during the previous week to make sure all would go well. The Talmages have been coming to Puerto Pollensa for many years and owned a home here for the past 19, so it was only natural that Rebecca would want the town where she had so many happy holiday memories to be the setting when she married her boyfriend of four years. The couple were actually married in a civil ceremony the week before in Britain, a date that coincided with Rebecca's grandfather's 90th birthday and made for a great family celebration in itself. By Saturday, however, some 70 guests had travelled from all parts of the UK over to Majorca for the church blessing including Julie Talmage's mother who at 81 was making her first trip to the island in 30 years, and a very young guest who at just a few weeks old was making his first trip anywhere!
