INCA has experienced an immigration boom over the past few years with nearly 1'000 new inhabitants, the vast majority foreign, moving into the municipality every year. According to the local council census, one in ten residents are immigrants, most of them from either North Africa or South America.
Inca's population currently stands at 26.000 and over the past four years, 62.75 percent of new residents enrolling with the local council are from overseas. Between 1999 and 2002, 2.397 immigrants registered with the Inca council compared to 1.423 Spanish citizens and since 1999, the population has grown at the rate of 1'000 per year; since 1997, the population has ballooned by just over 17 percent. hat is more, the huge diversity of nationalities living in Inca has transformed the town into the most cosmopolitan in the Balearics.
There are no less than 57 different nationalities living in Inca with the largest foreign community being Moroccan.
There are at least 1.155 Moroccans living in the town followed by 318 Argentines, 233 Ecuadorians, 190 from Senegal, 174 Colombians, 129 Germans, 105 Rumanians and 102 British. Over the past few years however, the biggest influx has been from North Africa and South America, much greater than the arrival of residents from the European Union. Ironically, although Inca has such a large foreign community, today just 52 are eligible to vote, the largest number, 17, being British residents. 11 Germans will be voting, 10 French, five Italians, two Dutch, two Portuguese, two Swedes, a Belgian, Finn and an Irish resident.
