Staff Reporter THE Balearic government has been using a helicopter to help repair a wall in Cala Banyalbufar, where the waves had opened a four metre hole. The helicopter was used yesterday to carry concrete blocks, and it will continue to be in service until tomorrow. The container wall provides shelter for boats during storms. The hole was made four months ago, and there is a danger of the wall collapsing, according to Mayor Mateu Ferra.

He added that the wall had been crumbling for the past four years, but nothing had been done to remedy the situation.
He said that the danger lay in the fact that the sea could pour in through the hole and damage the boats.
The helicopter had to be used because the wall is hard to reach and large crowds turned out to watch its spectacular manoeuvres while carrying blocks of concrete.

Although the services of the helicopter will only be needed until tomorrow, work on the wall is expected to continue for another two weeks.
The wall protects about a dozen boats moored in the small cove.
The work is being supervised by the ports department.
