He has been named as Keith George W.
According to the Guardia Civil, he was found to be in possession of an outboard motor and documents with handwritten notes plotting a course.
It is alleged that the suspect, an expert sailor, was planning to steal a yacht to which he had obtained the keys, and sail from the port of Andratx to Barcelona, then return to Engand, where he planned to sell the boat on the black market.

Although he escaped the Guardia Civil after the car chase on Sunday, he was arrested later that day at a luxury chalet, where he had been tracked down by the owners of a car hire firm, who located a Mercedes he had allegedly stolen in October and gave police the address.

The suspect originally told the Guardia Civil that the chalet belonged to him, but it was later established that he had broken in and had been living there for a week.

The Guardia Civil allegedly found a large number of keys and remote control devices, computer screens, a portable computer and other objects.
The man appeared before a judge on Thursday, and he is accused of 13 counts of breaking and entering, one of car theft, damages, resisting arrest and stealing.

The value of the stolen goods is in the region of 85'000 euros.
The robberies took place at the Club de Mar and port of Palma, the port of Andratx, shopping centres and hotels.
