Police on the tail of three organised drug gangs

THE central government delegate to the Balearics, Ramon Socias, yesterday admitted that the security forces, in particular the organised crime and anti-drug units, are on the tail of three carefully structured drug dealing cartels based in the Son Banya shanty town on the outskirts of Palma.

This summer, armed members of the Guardia Civil and the National Police raided the shanty town as part of Operation Kabul which resulted in the seizure of large amounts of drugs and cash as well as arms and luxury vehicles. The mass-trial of those involved and their gang leader, the infamous “la Paca”, is due to open in the New Year.
