City Hall's clock primed to ring in the New Year

THE person in charge of making sure that Palma City Hall's clock rings in the New Year correctly and on time tomorrow night is confident that the emblematic time piece's complicated machinery is primed to perfection.

Pere Caminals Jaume is the man in charge of the City Hall's clocks and he has spent the past few days meticulously revising the main clock to make sure it functions to perfection at midnight tomorrow night.

Thousands of people are going to pack Plaza Cort and they will all be waiting for the clock to ring in 2009.
Caminals maintains that the clock has never let him down “it will strike at midday and at midnight as always tomorrow” he said.
However, he will carry out one final revision between 9pm and 10pm - just to make sure.
