Cala D'Or.—Extranjeros de Llevant; that is the name given by locals to a group of 10 expatriate Majorcan dancers who performed in Placa Costa, Cala D'Or recently.

Since January 2010 when Susan Clarke started the group they have been learning a variety of traditional dances every Thursday evening in the Cala D'Or Cultural Centre with teacher Becki Lawer. The group is open to any foreign resident living in the South East. Currently the majority of the members, whose ages range from 40 through 68 years, are also ESRA (English Speaking Residents Association) members and provide the only two men.

Mostly English
Mostly English but also Danish, Swedish, Scottish and German the dancers much enjoyed donning their costumes before the event, including winding the men into their cummerbunds. They all looked very authentic in their traditional costumes largely borrowed but some made by members.

The ladies all seemed to hope that they wouldn't be individually recognizable. A very enthusiastic local audience enjoyed the Spring evening sunshine in the placa and the demonstrations of Majorcan dancing by several different groups from a local dance school. They particularly seemed to appreciate the efforts of the “estrangers” who performed a Hota, Balero and Fandango.

Underskirts
This last was the favourite of the two Englishmen Mark and Michael who got the opportunity to flick up their partner's skirt in the traditional manner showing off their sturdy underskirts!
