Palma.—Never say never because the future of the Renoir cinema complex remains in the balance thanks to a growing group of local film buffs and audio visual associations which are determined to try and save the cinema complex from total closure.

For the meantime, the Renoir complex closed its doors on Tuesday and the staff are now on holiday until May 24.
In the meantime, the movement Salvem els Renoir (Save the Renoir), headed by the President of the hugely successful Mallorca Film Commission, Pedro Barbadillo (pictured) is battling to reopen the cinema.

The association has already been in contact with Enrique Gonzalez Macho, the President of AltaFilms which distributes the films to the Renoir group, and he has said that he is prepared to continue doing so if the association can come up with a viable plan to keep the cinema open.

Next week, the association is expected to hold a face-to-face meeting with Macho to discuss their ideas further.
It appears that the association has also been in contact with a number of cinema operators who have shown an interest in providing the necessary projectors to screen the new era of digital format films.

However, a hurdle remains over the renting of the property which covers 600 square metres but Barbadillo is confident that an acceptable rental agreement can be reached once the rest of the project is in place.
