Sa Pobla.—The Council of Majorca is researching the possibility of laying a path for pedestrians and cyclists to link up the residential areas of Crestatx and Son Toni, the Council's Roads Director Rafel Gelabert said yesterday.

Gelabert was speaking during a visit to Sa Pobla where he clarified that what would essentially be a natural footpath, laid out in such a manner as to be respectful of the environment, would run along the road linking Sa Pobla with Pollensa.

Local Mayor Biel Serra had made the request for the connecting path to Maria Salom, the President of the Council of Majorca on a recent visit to the municipality. Serra said: “What's needed is a safe means for pedestrians and cyclists to get from one residential area to the other. It's simply too dangerous to walk or cycle along the main road.” Separately, Council of Majorca technicians visiting Sa Pobla yesterday committed to cleaning the hard shoulders on the Pollensa road, specifically the section through Crestatx and Son Toni within a month.

Serra explained “the area is really dirty at the moment and there is a danger of brush fire or of rainwater becoming contaminated.” The Council of Majorca Roads department is also going to ban overtaking on the same stretch of road as it is an accident black spot.
