Son Servera.—The company managing safety, equipment and cleaning on the beaches of Son Servera is introducing measures to help protect those users most likely to need assistance during the summer months, namely children, the elderly and the handicapped.

One new feature this year is that the lifeguards will be making identification bracelets available to parents and carers to speed up the process of establishing just “who belongs to who” in the event of one of the vulnerable users becoming lost or disoriented.

During the summer, various games and activities will be organised on the beaches of Son Servera with young boys and girls in mind, encouraging them to pay heed to the importance of the environment.

Separately, workshops will have a variety of themes including the promotion of knowledge of safety on the beaches. Children will be taught how to interpret the flags that are flying determining the safety of the water for bathing, and to take into account the need to put on cream for protection from the sun according to skin type.

Another planned workshop will provide evidence of what happens to the coastal environment when waste is tipped into the sea.
Son Servera town council will also be arranging for recyclable ash trays to be distributed around the beaches for use by smokers. The Balearics is promoting cigarette-free beach areas.
