Palma.— Mayors and other local authority representatives in the Llevant district of Majorca - namely Sant Llorenç, Manacor, Artà, Capdepera and Son Servera - held a meeting yesterday with a regional government Transport Director Juan Salvador to ask for a better inter-urban transport system.

Representatives in the Llevant want to see improved connections between one district and another and above all, reliable transport to and from Manacor hospital and Palma airport.

Salvador collected all the petitions that had been handed in by the various Mayors and promised that he would deliver them and their message to the Balearic government's Transport ministry.

Also on the agenda of yesterday's meeting was a request for better information about the already-existing services in the Llevant for the tourist community. Municipal representatives said that many visitors enjoy using local transport but there is not sufficient information on timetables and pick-up points in resorts and tourist centres to encourage them to do so.

Salvador was further reminded by the Mayors that a petition has already been lodged with the regional government about a demand for the completion of the Manacor to Artà train line which is still at just the “earthworks” stage because of lack of funds.
