Madrid/Palma.—The Independent Consumer Federation calculates that the cost of holding a wedding in Spain wavers between 7'580 and 18'800 euros, averaging out at 13'190 euros a time. As the figure stands at the moment, it is an 8.3% drop on the amount spent on wedding s in 2011.

Research by FUCI into around 50 weddings reveals that the money people are prepared to spend has now declined for five years in a row.
FUCI President Gustavo Samayoa said that the downturn is the direct result of the crisis which he described as “dragging down” Spain's economy. Samayoa claimed that people are now paying 42 percent less to hold a wedding than they were in 2008.

The most significant cuts have been made in the wedding breakfast for guests which can make up half of the total invoice. Spending per guest in this sector tends to vary between 36 and 85 euros to which has to be added the cost of live music and the bar.

Other major costs of a wedding to which cuts are being made are in the honeymoon although it is now difficult to budget for anything less than 1'200 euros; and other ceremonial details such as the bridegroom's suit (between 310 and 750 euros) and the bride's wedding dress and accessories (up to 1'500 euros on average).

Samayoa said that engaged couples are now looking for the best price/quality ratios. They can expect to spend 7'000 euros on the wedding breakfast, 650 euros less than even just a year ago. FUCI reports that the most expensive place to get married in Spain is the region of Madrid where costs average out at around 16'600 euros a time and the cheapest is in the Canary Islands where a wedding will set you back 10'500 euros.
