Palma.—Around 200 people formed a noisy crowd at midday yesterday outside Central Government offices in Palma protesting against Labour Law reforms that were due to be approved by Congress.

General Workers Union General Secretary Lorenzo Bravo said that the proposed reforms undermine hard won individual employee rights and promote the interests of the employer to hire and fire at will. Bravo said that the imposition of what he claimed were largely unnegotiated changes to the Labour laws was “tantamount to fascism.” Workers Commission Secretary Katia Vicens said it was essential that ordinary working people reject reforms which “were not in their interest.”
