Palma.—Delegate for Central Government in the Balearic Islands, José Maria Rodríguez, said yesterday that the region needs to take a sober look at the violence that has recently been aimed at Partido Popular politicians and the Balearic government so that the level of societal relations doesn't deteriorate further.

Rodríguez said in a statement that the forces of law and order were going to make every effort to protect the freedom of everyone in the Balearics “and that included the regional President, José Ramón Bauzà”. The President's personal safety has been threatened by mobs angry at government cuts during his visits to outlying areas of Majorca. People have the right to demonstrate said Rodriguez, but it must be done within the law.
