Felanitx.—The town council in Felanitx has agreed that the opening of historic Santueri castle to the public is in the general interest and is requesting that the Council of Majorca give its seal of approval to the project.

The owners of Santueri castle, the Vidal family, have been forced by the Council of Majorca to take responsibility for restoring the castle after it had been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. Because the castle is part of Majorca's historic architectural heritage, the Council of Majorca is empowered to expropriate the building and its grounds from the owner if the proprietors fail to maintain it.

The Vidal family therefore asked the Council that in order to help them pay for the costly restoration work, the public should be allowed to visit the site paying a small entrance fee. Plans are that a marked out tour of the site should be put in place enabling the public to visit the castle's key features whilst at the same time keeping people away from the steep precipices which surround the grounds.

Of special interest is Mediaeval grafitti by the water cistern.
Felanitx's Mayor Gabriel Tauler said that he is making contact with the owners to see if it is possible for people from the municipality of Felanitx to be allowed in at a reduced cost.
