Palma.— It is part of the daily routine in the summer months for Local Police along the Playa de Palma to keep a look out for women of Asian origin who take unsuspecting tourists by surprise. The women convince their customers to have a massage whilst they are lying on the beach taking the sun and then demand 20 euros for it.

Over the past few days, officers had noticed that the Asian women were attempting to be less noticeable by dressing up as tourists and even dying their hair to mix with the crowds on the beach. However, last weekend, three such women who were carrying no identification and who claimed to speak no Castillian Spanish were intercepted on the beach in Camp de Mar in the municipality of Andratx.

Police officers attempted to communicate with them in English but to no avail.
More widely Local Police are tasked with keeping street traders away from tourist zones and from peddling their wares on the beaches.
Also at the weekend, officers apprehended a man illegally selling fruit to tourists across beaches in Calvia. He was fined on the spot.
Local traders associations in Palma proposed earlier this year that they also wanted fines imposed on people who chose to buy from illegal street vendors.
