Pollensa.—Seven years after giving in to pressure from local residents to demolish the cabins which had been built on the seafront next to the Pollensa Port car park, the Balearic Ports Authority has now once again built a further set of wooden cabins in the same area without the permission of the local council.

Partido Popular (PP) Mayor Bartomeu Cifre has asked the municipal surveyor to make a report on the location and its suitability for construction.
Although the report can't be binding onthe Ports Authority, a Balearic government department, it aims to convey some form of control on the visual appearance and dimensions of the cabins so they remain in keeping with the environment. “So far”, said the local council yesterday, “six prefabricated wooden cabins have been built under a pergola.” The former seafront cabin project which began in 2005, ended with the demoliton of eight cabins and two public toilets.
The idea at the time was to put the cabins up for public auction so that nautical companies could use the premises for advertising and presenting their services. “Now, with the work already having begun, we've had a letter from the Balearic Ports Authority asking for a municipal report as soon as possible,” said Cifre. “We've also been told that the cabins are collapsible. We'll see,” he added.
