Soller.— A 56-year-old man was killed yesterday as he tried to jump aboard a moving Soller tram.
The tragic accident happened early yesterday afternoon shortly before 5pm when the victim, who apparently lived locally tried to jump aboard the moving tram.

Sadly, he lost balance and fell onto the tracks in front of the moving tram just 500 metres from the town centre.
According to eyewitness, the victim was running to catch the tram and as he leapt aboard, slipped, fell onto the track and was run over by the tram, the driver of which was unable to stop in time because everything happened so fast. The driver did manage to stop the tram as quickly as possible and the emergency services were called - Local Police and members of the Guardia Civil also responded to the call.

Paramedics battled to reanimate the victim at the scene but there was little they could do because of the extent of the injuries the man had suffered.
A coroner from Palma was eventually called and the victim was officially declared dead.
The body, however, was not removed until half past seven yesterday evening.
The police and the Guardia Civil have both opened investigations into the tragic accident.
