Palma.— From the start of next month, Artà town council is going to impose water restrictions as a result of low rainfall levels this year.
The cuts are considered vital to ensuring a municipal supply as the wells of s'Hort des Bril now aren't full enough to guarantee it.
Environment Councillor Guillem Caldentey said yesterday: “Town hall technicians will set up the same restricted supply service which was in place last summer when works on municipal water pipes were being carried out.” The town council is going to apply the restrictions in an area which at the moment enjoys 24 hour access running from Calle Ciutat as far as Costa i Llobera. Water here will be on tap from 2pm to 7am, whilst the other part of the town will have access from 7am to 2pm.

Caldentey said that “fortunately, there are many properties which have their own water supply and of course they won't be affected in any way by the restrictions.” Aware that the cuts will inconvience others, the town council has put a public apology on its website, explaining that there simply isn't enough water for 24 hour access. The same message appeals to people to make rational use of their supply so that what water there is can be shared out fairly.
