The Sant Marçal festival in Marratxi has traditionally heralded the onset of high summer with five days of celebrations, activities, giant figures and markets which this year draw to a close on Sunday.

Yesterday was devoted to the very young who had workshops, games and parties laid on for them by animation group “Mel i Sucre” (honey and sugar). From 9pm there was a drumming session led by percussionists “Kalemba” followed by Majorcan music and dance. At 7pm today, there will be bagpipers, pipes and drums followed by craft exhibitions and a Taikwondo display. Over the weekend there will be a full programme of activity.
