Pollensa.— In an attempt to recover the European blue flag of quality which is not flying this year on the beaches of Cala Molins and the Port of Pollensa, the local council is improving facilities to the public .

One essential pre-requisite for meriting a blue flag is making the beach and the sea accessible to those with limited mobility. Pollensa council is providing amphibious chairs to facilitate bathing for the handicapped and infant chairs for the very small.

The beaches of Cala Molins and the Port of Pollensa are managed by the Port of Pollensa residents association.
In their bid to maintain their control of the beaches in the face of competition, the association has now upgraded the facilities it offers to users. Amongst these upgraded services are awnings which cover the wooden walkways across the beach so that the handicapped are protected from the scorching sun on their way down to the water.

A platform has also been erected which will assist those with limited mobility to manoevre themselves into the amphibious chairs. There are three chairs available.

A spokesman for Pollensa council that the local authority has taken the essential steps to help it recover the blue flat in time for the 2013 season.
