Palma.Every year, the SOS Calvia operation is launched to clean the local beaches and this year, the volunteers were joined by members of staff from British tour firms Thomson and First Choice. Charlie Bridge, TUI UK & Ireland Area Manager for Majorca said; We're delighted to provide our support to the SOS Calvia shoreline event. At Thomson and First Choice, we believe that all stakeholders, including tour operators, must play a part in preserving Majorca's environmental beauty into the future, for both the locals and the tourists who visit this beautiful island.
At Thomson and First Choice we are committed to sustainable tourism. That's why, in 2011, we made 20 Holidays Forever commitments that we will achieve by 2014'.
The Holidays Forever commitments fall into 4 categories: Reducing our carbon footprint (As well as remaining one of Europe's most fuel-efficient airlines, by 2014 we'll reduce the annual carbon footprint of our ground-based operations by 3000 tonnes of CO2.)
Taking care in our destinations (As well as raising £14 million for sustainability projects worldwide, by 2014 Thomson and First Choice hotels will stand out for their commitment to sustainability)
Living our values (By 2014, we will be a leader in how our colleagues rate our approach to the environment and local community)
Inspiring our customers (By 2014, we will have engaged two million holidaymakers in sustainable tourism through Holidays Forever.)
