Palma.—The National Police Serious Crime Squad was yesterday continuing its search for three South American criminals who assaulted a man in the early hours of yesterday morning robbing him of all his money and his mobile before violently assaulting him.

The innocent victim was walking along calle Industria at 3am when he was set upon by the trio.
So serious are his injuries, which include a broken jaw, that medical sources said yesterday that it could take up to six months for the victim to fully recover.

The alarm was raised by various neighbours who reported a man lying on the floor covered in blood - when police arrived he could hardly walk never mind talk.

He was rushed to hospital while the Local Police, whose San Fernando station just up the road, in cooperation with the National mounted an immediate search of the area.

However, sources close to the case suspect that the trio split up in order to give the police the slip.
Nevertheless, police combed the area for over an hour, but to no avail.
Yesterday, with the manhunt and investigation still open, officers questioned the victim and showed him a book of photographs of known criminals in the event he should recognise any of his attackers.

The police are also appealing to any eyewitnesses, especially drivers, who may have been driving up calle Industria, a busy road, when the attack took place to come forward.

Police are also going over CCTV footage taken in the area in their hunt for clues to who the attackers were.
