The Socialists on Palma City Council complained yesterday that there are only 82 bicycles available to those who want to use the “Bicipalma” public cycle system instead of the 300 which were originally promised.

The Socialists said that the City Council had only managed to provide a further 4 cycles since last March when there was a total of 78 bikes operating on “Bicipalma.” Party spokesmen José Hila and Antoni Donaire said that the ruling Partido Popular (PP) were “allowing the system to die” and urged the public to make more use of it.

The PP had forecast that public interest was bound to wane after the Council declared earlier this year that “Bicipalma” was to cease to be a free service as of 18th December. But Mobility Councillor Gabriel Vallejo denied that the “system was dying” and said that 100 bicycles more will be operating from 18th December.
