Palma.—The Balearic government and regional business associations have agreed on the Sundays and public holidays when trading will be permitted in 2013.

Next year will be the first when new bylaws will allow ten public holiday openings instead of eight.
The Trade and Commerce Board, which includes representation from other parts of public administration, unions, and consumer associations agreed the dates which have to have the final nod of approval from the Balearic government. Yesterday's meeting was chaired by regional Finance Minister, Josep Ignasi Aguiló.

The agreement reached yesterday comes in the wake of Balearic law having adapted to national law on public holiday opening.
However, recently introduced legislation means that shops and businesses in areas which have been designated as being of particular importance to tourists, namely those in the centre of Palma, but in theory in other parts of the island as well, can remain open on all public holidays.
