The regional Ministry for the President's Office yesterday introduced its new “tapas route for fair trade”.
The route is a selection of bars and restaurants in different municipalities of Majorca where food and other merchandise is used for which producers, possibly in third world countries, have been paid a fair price.

The routes open today in 66 establishments in Palma, Alaró, Bunyola, Inca, Manacor, Sencelles and Soller. Establishments will be offering coffee, traditional “tapas” and dishes made with ingredients which have been given the “fair trade” seal of approval.

Antonia Maria Estarellas, Cooperation and Immigration director presented the project yesterday which is part of the Christmas 2012 campaign. She said that the Balearic governmentgives the scheme and the “fair trade” products its “very special support.” The campaign has been organised by the Majorcan Diocese Chairty, the Deixalles Foundation, Intermon Oxfam, the Vicente Ferrer Foundation and S'altra Senalla, which will be offering an ecological coffee tasting in its shop at 4pm.
