The price of housing in the Balearics fell by 14 percent in the third quarter compared to the same period in 2011, whilst the accumulated downturn so far this year is 10 percent, according to the housing price index (IPV) of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The downturn in the third quarter in comparison with the second quarter is 1.6%.
Across Spain as a whole, the price of housing fell by 15.2% in the third quarter in comparison to the same period in 2011, the greatest downturn since 2007 when the housing price index first started registering data. New housing prices fell by 13.6% and second hand home prices by 16.4%.
