Pollensa.—Last weekend, shops and businesses in Pollensa and the Port of Pollensa were offering discounts of up to 70 percent to kick start the spirit of Christmas shopping, and are intending to continue their success with a “Shopping Day” today and tomorrow when items on sale will be VAT free.

So this weekend, whoever buys from shops belonging to the Pollensa business association will be able to make their purchases without having to pay value added tax.

The very young have not been forgotten as there will be various workshops and nursery entertainment sessions so that parents can shop in peace and quiet.

Christmas campaign
Pollensa's Christmas shopping campaign, christened Tenim de tot i molt (We have everything and plenty of it) will come to an end over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd December with a Christmas market in Sant Domingo cloisters. The Pollensa business association has organised the three weekends to boost local commerce in association with the local town council. In order to give as wide as possible public coverage to the events, shopping bags have been distributed in retailers belonging to the business association with a design of a cock created on the side by local artist Joan March.

Anyone who buys items will be given one of the bags. The Mayor of Pollensa Tomeu Cifre said yesterday that “it is important to support the efforts of local businesses and even more so, because they are offering new ideas to try and break out of the mould of the economic crisis.” Cifre said that the key idea was to promote local commerce throughout the municipality. “The campaign has the town hall's full support,” said the Mayor.
