Palma.—The body of the male was in an advanced state of decomposition but was still clothed in a wet suit and the remains of a jacket worn by jet skiers.

The body was spotted being washed up against the beach by a couple out for an early morning stroll at 8am.
Once they had confirmed for themselves that it was a body, they immediately contacted the emergency services and a Local Police patrol was on the scene within minutes, shortly followed by officers from the Guardia Civil and a team of forensics.

The police dragged the body out of the water and covered it until the coroner arrived and gave the order for the body to be removed and taken to the morgue for further examination in Palma.

According to initial inspection, the police reckon that the body is that of a jet skier and that he may well have been in the water for as long as a month.

Apparently, the wet suit and equipment he was wearing was that commonly used by jet skiers as opposed to wind, kite surfers or divers.
The forensics and the Guardia Civil in charge of the investigation carried out an exhaustive photographic inspection of the area where the body was found and will set about trying to piece together what happened to the victim.

The Guardia Civil are not even ruling out that he may have drowned outside of Balearic waters elsewhere in the Med. and was eventually washed ashore in Santa Ponsa. They will be checking for reports of missing jet skiers etc. across the Western Med.
