Palma.—The annual ‘flu campaign has come to a close in the Balearics with 110'153 people having been vaccinated this year, according to the Director General for Public Health.

The campaign began on October 22 and concluded on November 30 in medical centres across the Balearics.
According to the health service, just under half of the ‘high risk' over 65s group has been vaccinated while 20 percent of the ‘lower risk' 65s have also had the jab.

30.5 percent of the under 65s have been vaccinated and that includes pregnant women who are also considered a high risk group.
The public health service's target for this year was just to vaccinate over 150'000 people, the total number of inhabitants which were considered high risk which also included patients with lung diseases, heart complication and diabetes.

For the moment, the ‘flu rate in the Balearics is one of the lowest in Spain per habitant.
However, the worst of the weather is to come in the New Year with January always being the start of the ‘flu alert period.
But, the health service is again advising people who may think they are suffering from the symptoms of ‘flu to head to their local doctors' surgery and not head to casualty at the local hospitals.

Every year, potential ‘flu patients rush to casualty, over loading the system, instead of visiting their local GP first.
And if you are showing signs of ‘flu then it is a case of drinking lost of liquids and taking plenty of rest and not taking any antibiotics.
