PALMA
OUT of all the regions of Spain, the Balearics is where residents have spent the least this year on the annual multi-million El Niño lottery to be drawn today in Madrid on the Festival of the Three Kings.
Spain's National Lotteries and Betting Department confirmed yesterday that on the islands, people have spent only 16.53 euros per head on the El Niño draw, 9.38 euros less than the State average.
The department said that it had sold a total of 85'162 coupons in the Balearics to the value of 17 million euros, in contrast to 59'057 sold last year valued at 11.1 million euros. The data won't be finally confirmed until unsold tickets are returned today.
