PALMA
THE international success of Spanish and Majorcan sportsmen and women on tennis and basketball courts, cycling, motorbike and formula one circuits and football pitches across the world may be having an adverse affect on the Balearic population.

A report released yesterday by the National Statistics Institute has revealed that the Balearic population is one of the least active in Spain when it comes to recreational sports.

Only in the North African enclave of Melilla is the population lazier.
Apparently, just 34.3 percent of the population regularly practice a physical activity, 7.5 percent the national average.
