Palma.All of Soller official car parks are going to be fitted with CCTV cameras after the local council as given the green light by the central government to the Balearics.
A total of 22 cameras, all connected to a central control centre, are going tobe installed along with one in the street where the Mayor, Carlos Simarro lives.
Last year his car was the victim of a fire bomb attack right outside his house which subsequently led to revelations that a handful of CCTV cameras had been fitted around the town apparently without the necessary permission.
However, now that the row over the cameras has died down, the local authority has now been granted permission to install the network of cameras which all have to be clearly sign posted.
The main reason for the move, according to the council, is to crack down on vandalism in the town.
