MAJORCAN home owners Claudia Schiffer and Boris Becker are the two main attractions at the Balearic stand this year and they will be lending their image and a few kind words to the Mallorca Golf Classic which will be presented to the German media today to mark Balearic day.

Balearic president Jaume Matas will be leading a considerable delegation of politicians to Berlin for today's celebrations and, as we have become accustomed to seeing over recent years in London, Berlin and Milan, he and Tourism Minister Joan Flaquer, will be joined by Claudia Schiffer and Boris Becker for the main event.

However, one of the most popular attractions at the recent travel fair in Milan was a Majorcan bakery producing ensaimadas, not to mention the local produce rolled out for the various receptions. Flaquer and his team from the ministry for tourism will be using the fair, which runs until March 11, to get up to speed on the latest booking figures for the Balearics and the latest changes in the holiday market, in particular with regards to booking and travel habits. Similar to the United Kingdom, independent and on-line travel and bookings are two of the growth sectors which the Balearics is keen to lock onto and capitalise from.
