STAFF REPORTER THE Balearics looks set to escape the heavy cloud and rainfall that is forecast to blight the mainland at the start of Easter week, the National Weather Agency (AEMET) reported yesterday.

Only light cloud will affect the Balearics and the Canary Islands, the agency said. Whereas temperatures are predicted to drop on the maindland and snowfall expected in the northeast above 1'000 metres, they will remain unchanged in the Mediterranean, AEMET said.

The Balearics is also going to be exempt from another squall sweeping in from the Atlantic on Monday and Tuesday of next week, bringing moderate rainfall to many areas.
