OFFICERS of the Guardia Civil have arrested four Rumanian citizens in Palma on suspicion of having carried out a great deal of robberies in shopping malls in the city and in Marratxi, during which a great number of valuable items were stolen. Guardia Civil sources said yesterday that the detainees, two men and two women, had been under surveillance for some weeks.
It was discovered that the group had been living in Plaza Gomila but left suddenly to move to Calle Aragon.
According to the Guardia Civil, the detainees used a videogame, to which they had attached a jamming device, held by the son of one of the detainees, to render the burglar alarms useless so that they could enter the shops to rob them. The Guardia Civil's investigators suspect that the detainees, who have no previous police record, arrived on the island around five months ago.
During their time on the island they have changed address four times.
Items found in the flat where they live included cameras, mobile telephones, numerous items of clothing, leather jackets, shoes, perfume, cosmetics. Altogether the items are valued at 20'000 euros.
