Palma.—Yesterday, Costa Cruises celebrated its 65th anniversary.
It was 65 years to the day since the first departure of the Anna C which left Genoa for Buenos Aires carrying 768 passengers.
She was the first ship in the Costa fleet dedicated to passenger transport, effectively marking the beginning of Costa's cruises and yesterday the Balearic Port Authority put on a special anniversary show for the 300 metre Costa Mediterranea as she sailed into Palma.

Tugs and fire fighting vessels met her just outside the port spraying her with their water canons while on shore, the 3'000 passengers were greeted by displays of traditional Majorcan dance.

Important port
Palma has become one of the cruise lines most important and popular ports, Costa Cruises account for 25 percent of the port's annual cruise activity.
