SPAIN'S National Association for Animal protection and Welfare has launched an international campaign to stop Palma hosting a special Rodeo at the Bull Ring, which will continue to host bull fights as usual. The association claims that rodeos are “savage” and extremely cruel to the animals involved and intend to stop the three-day event scheduled to take place in September from going ahead. The three-day event is not only going to feature rodeo but bucking bulls, Western horse shows and a host of exciting equestrian events extremely popular and part of the culture in the United States, Canada and Australia, for example. The association also claims that the show “violates the Balearic Animal Protection Law.” The association intends to take the show “full on” and has launched its campaigns in association with the British animal protection organisation Fight Against Cruelty in Europe and the Animal 2000-Menschen für Tierrechte Bayern in Germany. The direct targets of the campaign are going to be the Balearic government and the German, British and Austrian embassies in Spain as well as international travel agents which will be asked not to promote the event.
